Larian Studios Performing Optimisations On Divinity It ‘Didn’t Necessarily Want To Do’ Due To Price Of RAM

The CEO of Larian Studios has revealed that the developer is being forced to undertake optimisations on the upcoming Divinity that it wouldn’t ordinarily be doing at this stage due the increased price of RAM.

Speaking with TheGamer, Swen Vincke touched base on the various pressures that Larian Studios is faced with when releasing a title in Early Access, and brought up the increasing cost of RAM as one of the issues the company is having to deal with.

Interestingly, another [issue Larian is facing] is really the price of RAM and the price of SSDs and f**k, man. It’s like, literally, we’ve never had it like this. It kind of ruins all of your projections that you had about it because normally, you know the curves, and you can protect the hardware. It’s gonna be an interesting one. It means that most likely, we already need to do a lot of optimization work in early access that we didn’t necessarily want to do at that point in time. So it’s challenging, but it’s video games.

Larian Studios announced Divinity during The Game Awards 2025 last week, although right now there’s no confirmation on a release date or what platform(s) it will launch. The company this week stated that it was using generative AI to aid in the development process, but stressed that Divinity won’t actually feature any content produced by the tech.

This caused some backlash online, prompting Vincke to issue statement to clarify that the studio only uses “AI tools to explore references, just like we use Google and art books.”

Larian Studios is riding high off the back of the critically-acclaimed Baldur’s Gate III, which launched for PC in August 2023 and arrived for PS5 the following month. Despite the huge success of the RPG, Larian soon announced it would be moving away from the franchise and the Dungeons & Dragons IP as a whole for its next project, rather than work on DLC for Baldur’s Gate III or a full sequel.
