The Last Of Us Could End With Season 3, Suggests HBO Boss

HBO chief Casey Bloys has indicated that The Last of Us could end with its upcoming third season, despite the fact it has been heavily indicated the show would not be able to complete the current narrative without an additional season.

Speaking with Deadline, Bloys was asked whether or not The Last of Us Season 3 would be the final season, to which he replied:

It certainly seems that way but on decisions like that, we will defer to the showrunners. So you can ask them.”

This might come as a surprise, considering showrunner Craig Main stated during an interview with Collider in May last year thathe thinks The Last of Us will require four season to tell the whole story of The Last of Us: Part II.

I think we’ll have a little more room there. But certainly, there’s no way to complete this narrative in a third season. Hopefully, we’ll earn our keep enough to come back and finish it in a fourth. That’s the most likely outcome.

The Last of Us Season 2 was met with somewhat negative feedback among critics and fans alike, and the show suffered another setback when Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog announced he had stepped away from the show to focus on his upcoming game projects. Season 3 of The Last of Us is going to focus on the character of Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever, who recently stated that she’s getting ready for production and is excited for fans to see the eventual result.
