The PlayStation Network Has Been Down For Over A Dozen Hours Now, And Sony’s Silence Continues To Frustrate Players
On Friday, February 7, 2025, PlayStation players everywhere sat down on their couch, their desks, or wherever else they chose to tuck in for a night of gaming after a long work week.
Only to discover that the PlayStation Network was down. Annoyed, though potentially not overtly concerned, most people probably went to do something else for half an hour, and then come back to check if it was back up.
It was at that point that players everywhere began to realize Sony might be ruining their Friday nights. Because it wasn’t back, and at time of writing the following morning, it’s still not back up. The service has been down for 15 hours now, and the most frustrating part is that Sony hasn’t bothered to update players on the situation for at least 12 hours now.
The official PlayStation Network Service Status website has had a string of four red dots indicating outages on all PlayStation Network services for all those hours, and those four dots have, realistically, been more communicative than the AskPlayStation support account on X and other socials.
“We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN,” is all the account has said since the outage started being widely reported by players, before sending them to the official service status website above.
A simple scroll through the comments on that single update is enough to understand that players are not happy about the service being down, but they’re more upset about the lack of communication on what’s happening.
If we had at least heard from PlayStation about the situation, as to why it is down, or how long they think the issue would take to fix. Even if that latter update would’ve been that they don’t have an answer, players would clearly prefer to hear anything, instead of a worrying nothing.
Since 2011, PlayStation players have been quick to worry about service outages. If they’re not fixed quickly, then many start to fear the worst.
Thankfully it’s not all doom and gloom, since there’s still at least one person, X user lost32jojo, who claims to be having no issues. Good for them.
