Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake Announced By Koei Tecmo

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake was announced today during the Nintendo Direct showcase. The game is the latest release in the Fatal Frame franchise and is set to release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, and Xbox Series S/X in early 2026.

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly is considered by many to be the scariest game not only in the franchise, but also one of the scariest games ever made. The PlayStation 2 classic propelled the franchise to great heights and made it a standout in the genre.

Crimson Butterfly sees two sisters trapped in a haunted village that has been cursed due to a failed ritual that they must complete to survive. Their only chance of survival lies in the Camera Obscura taking photos of the ghosts before they can harm them. The Camera capture mechanics have become the staple of the franchise and its primary focus.
