Resident Evil 9 Rumour Points To Jill & Leon As Main Characters, Set 4 Years After RE Village
Grab the salt shaker for this one folks, as YouTuber Residence of Evil has dropped a massive batch of alleged Resident Evil 9 details, which puts the game taking place four years after Resident Evil Village and reunites fan favourites Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy as its main heroes.
In what sounds like an all too-good-to-be-true fan fiction, Jill and Leon will be backed up by none other than Chris Redfield and Barry Burton by radio, and there’s also murmurs of Rosemary Winters making an appearance. Details are based on a play test that supposedly took place in Japan between April and September of this year.
Jill reportedly features a tactical outfit that is reminiscent of her attire in Resident Evil 5: Lost in Nightmares, although due to her T-Virus infection she hasn’t really aged. Leon on the other hand looks noticeable older, and features longer hair and facial hair.

In terms of story, the report claims that Jill and Leon are investigating an island that is the base of operations for the organisation that created Eveline, Resident Evil 7: Biohzard’s villain. The group is now producing clones of Eveline using the Megamycete from Resident Evil Village’s Big Bad, Miranda, and is stated that both Jill and Leon will become infected the Megamycete.
Finally, Blue Umbrella is also set to return as an ally to our heroes, and locations include a hospital, forest, deserted houses, laboratory, caves, and much more. Furthermore, the game’s main enemies are described as an evolution of the basic zombie, and Jill and Leon will be stalked by a specific enemy.
The only official details we have on Resident Evil 9 is that it’s in development and will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who also helmed Resident Evil 7. The game recently appeared on Metacritic, suggesting that a formal reveal is not too far off, and people have speculated that it’ll be shown at The Game Awards in December.
Insider Dusk Golem has long been a source of info on Resident Evil 9, and his last major update stated that the game would not be announced this summer as it was delayed internally to a late 2025/early 2026 window. Again, we stress that the above info should be taken with a grain of salt as it is simply a rumour until we hear something official from Capcom.
Resident Evil celebrates its 30th anniversary in March 2026, so it would make sense for Resident Evil 9 to be released around that time.
