Gears Of War: E-Day Developer ‘Never Talked About’ The Game Coming To PS5

Matt Searcy, Studio Creative Director for The Coalition, has moved to clarify the situation regarding a PS5 version of Gears of War: E-Day, noting the developer never talked about bringing the game to Sony’s console in the first place.
To bring you to speed, it was always assumed that Gears of War: E-Day would come to PS5 after Microsoft shifted focus to bringing its major titles to other systems, with last year’s Gears of War: Reloaded among them. This marked the first time the franchise had appeared on a rival platform. Furthermore, it was claimed that a PS5 logo appeared on a version of the Gears of War: E-Day trailer for the Xbox Games Showcase, implying the game’s Xbox exclusivity was a late decision.
If that wasn’t enough fuel to the fire, Jeff Grubb stated earlier this week that there’s a PS5 version of Gears of War: E-Day that’s finished and basically “sitting on a drive.” However, Searcy’s comments paint a different picture:
“Well, we never talked about it going to PS5,” commented Searcy. In addition, Nicole Fawcette, Studio Brand Director for The Coalition, added, “It was never changed.”
“I would say that, Gears as an exclusive, makes a tonne of sense,” Searcy continued. “It’s kind of an honour, and exciting, to be one of the Xbox flagship titles.” As for the how The Coalition felt about Gears of War: E-Day coming to a smaller audience due to a lack of PS5 version, he added: “Of course, it’s awesome to have [more] people play our games, but for Xbox and PC, you’ve got what is out there.”
Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled for release on October 6, 2026 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
