WWE News & Notes Coming Out Of August 24 Raw In Ottawa
Monday night’s episode of WWE Raw featured a pair of main roster debuts, while WWE also laid the groundwork for several significant matches coming up over the next few weeks.
NXT tag team OTM made their presence felt on Monday’s show, as Bronco Nima and Lucien Price surfaced on Raw and joined Royce Keys in an attack on The Usos, LA Knight and Solo Sikoa.
The angle appears to officially bring Nima and Price to the Raw roster, with OTM set to align with Keys going forward. The duo had been part of the NXT brand prior to Monday night’s surprise appearance.
WWE also announced several matches and appearances for next week’s Raw, which will be taped this Friday in Cleveland, Ohio.
World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns will be on hand, while Rey Fenix and Penta will collide in the finals of the ongoing tournament to determine Reigns’ next challenger. The Battle of the Lucha Brothers comes with major stakes, as the winner will advance to challenge Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship when Raw heads to Mexico City on September 14.
Fenix punched his ticket to the finals with a victory over Dragon Lee, while Penta advanced by defeating LA Parka on Monday night’s show.
Also scheduled for next week is Women’s Intercontinental Champion Raquel Rodriguez defending her title against Sol Ruca. Ruca confirmed during Monday’s show that she will receive another opportunity against Rodriguez after coming up short in their previous encounter.
Looking further ahead, WWE has already announced a major Women’s World Championship match for the September 7 episode of Raw in Birmingham, Alabama. Liv Morgan will defend against Stephanie Vaquer in a rematch from WrestleMania 42.
The following week, Raw heads to Mexico City on September 14, where Reigns will put the World Heavyweight Championship on the line against either Fenix or Penta.
That means next week’s all-Lucha Brothers tournament final will determine who receives the high-profile championship opportunity in Mexico City, with Fenix and Penta set to go one-on-one for the right to challenge The Tribal Chief.
