Former Wrestling Champion “Handsome” John Anson Passes Away

Former professional wrestler “Handsome” John Anson, who also competed under the name Karl von Schotz, has passed away.

Anson reportedly passed away in Sosua, Dominican Republic, where he had lived for the past 25 years.

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, on April 7, 1949, Anson began his professional wrestling career at just 17 years old. He made his debut for Stampede Wrestling in a match against Ivan Koloff.

Anson went on to become a two-time Stampede Wrestling North American Champion, capturing the promotion’s top championship twice in 1976. His second reign came to an end on July 2 of that year when he dropped the title to Archie “Mongolian Stomper” Gouldie.
