Mercedes Moné Again Addresses Bayley Match Rumors

Mercedes Moné isn’t giving up hope of sharing the ring with Bayley again.

Moné fueled speculation about a potential reunion with her longtime friend and rival in June when she shared a fan-made graphic teasing a match between the two at AEW WrestleDream. Bayley’s WWE contract has been rumored to expire around the end of 2026, although she has not publicly addressed her contract status or future plans.

During an interview with the Daily Star this week (see video below), Moné was asked about the possibility of facing Bayley again. While she didn’t offer any indication that something is actually in the works, Moné made it clear that another match remains high on her wish list.

“You never know in wrestling,” Mone responded. “That’s always a dream match for me, that is to have another match with her. She is one of my greatest opponents of all time. Of course, everybody knows one of our greatest matches together, [NXT TakeOver] Brooklyn, that’s really changed the way people viewed women’s wrestling. But, yeah, it’s always a dream match for me. It’s always a dream match for me. So, you never know.”

Moné and Bayley’s rivalry dates back more than a decade, with their match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015 remaining one of the most celebrated bouts of their respective careers.

Elsewhere in the interview, Moné discussed her experience since joining AEW and said the creative freedom she has received has allowed her to perform at her best.

“It’s been amazing. It’s been so rewarding for me and just kind of freeing,” Mone said. “I’ve always wanted that feeling of feeling free. And I feel like this has been the best I’ve ever been able to perform because I have that capability and that ability to have that freedom of just — whether that’s putting matches together and performing differently or having a different mindset or not having people tell you ‘no’ or being scared to tell something and then you will be told no. It’s just a freedom.

“And I’m very happy to be here, and I hope that shows in my work. But, yeah, I think it shows in my matches how free I feel and how great I feel in AEW.”

Despite everything she has accomplished throughout her career, Moné said she doesn’t view herself as a finished product. With new talent continually entering the business, she believes continuing to learn and improve is necessary to remain at the top.

“I feel like I’m never going to stop learning and growing. I feel like that’s the main thing, is not being content and not being like, ‘I know everything.’ I don’t know everything. And I still want to learn,” she said. “And we have so many people that I get to learn from. So it’s still for me is wanting to learn and wanting to grow and wanting to be better.

“And not being like, ‘Okay, I’m the best women’s wrestler. Now what?’ No, I’m the best women’s wrestler and I still have to prove that every single day. Because these women are coming after me and coming into this business every single day.”
