CruiserGreats Call EMERGE Decision A “Travesty”
The CruiserGreats called EMERGE Commissioner Chris Lowe’s decision to award Money Power Respect the next World Tag Team Championship match a “travesty,” while promising that September will mark the beginning of their own title run.
Avery Hurts and Gaston LaRue delivered the warning in a post-event promo released by EMERGE Wrestling and shared through LaRue’s Instagram account. The CruiserGreats will face No Limit Demons members Matt Diesel and Nikeem Avent in a number-one contender’s match at EMERGE 99: Stock The Shelves on September 5.
The team opened by acknowledging that it finally has a defined path toward the championship.
“Can you believe it, man? We finally got our tag team title opportunity. All we have to do is beat the No Limit Demons next month in September.”
The CruiserGreats did not object to facing the No Limit Demons. Their grievance concerned why Money Power Respect members Paragon and Christopher Moore received the immediate championship match.
“That’s true. But it is a travesty that Chris Lowe didn’t pick us or the Demons, the people who actually won their matches tonight.”
At EMERGE 98: Back In The Saddle, Hurts and LaRue defeated Brutus Atwell and Cousin Cooter in the opening Facebook Live match.
Diesel and Avent teamed with Lord Crewe later that night to defeat Money Power Respect and Juwan Thomas. Paragon abandoned the match following a disagreement with Thomas, while Moore left in an attempt to calm his partner.
The Dead Presidents retained the EMERGE World Tag Team Championship against Mo Betta Mob before a confrontation involving several teams established the next stage of the division.
Chet Rippley and Jeremy Hadley will defend the championship against Money Power Respect at EMERGE 99. The winning team will then face the CruiserGreats or No Limit Demons at EMERGE 100.
Hurts and LaRue predicted that the September contender’s match will belong to them.
“But the fact of the matter is, when September comes, it is going to be the September reign of the CruiserGreats. And then we’re going to go on to EMERGE 100.”
LaRue previously explained to WrestlingHeadlines.com that the CruiserGreats are built around the contrast between Hurts’ striking and physical presence and LaRue’s flamboyant technical style.
The team incorporated those contrasting identities into its warning for both possible championship opponents.
“And it doesn’t matter if it is MPR. It doesn’t matter if it is the Dead Presidents. Because we are Cruiser Greatness.”
“And we are going to knock you out, sing at your funeral, and become the EMERGE Tag Team Champions.”
