Grand Theft Auto VI Parent Company Has Reportedly Spent As Much As $1.5 Billion On The Game So Far

Rockstar parent company Take-Two is reported to have spent in the region of $1 billion — $1.5 billion into the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, according to Business Insider, who based the staggering figures on estimations from industry analysts as part of a chat with the publisher’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick.
The executive wouldn’t say just how much GTA VI has cost Take-Two, but did mention that “it was expensive.” $1.5 billion would certainly fit that bill, and would put the upcoming crime romp among the most expensive games ever made, as most triple-A titles nowadays cost a couple of hundred million dollars. One of the more expensive titles in recent years is Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, which had a budget of around $700 million.
Previously, it was claimed by YouTuber Saukko505 that Rockstar Games has spent about two billion dollars developing GTA VI, a figure that is based on financial documents that are available to the public on the UK Government website.
While we’re on the subject of GTA VI, the game’s price has been a heavily debated topic recently, although Take-Two won’t say how much we can expect to fork out for the game. Having said that, the Bank of America has suggested the game should be priced around $80, claiming it will be good for the industry as a whole. The publisher itself has said that “our job is to charge, way, way, way less of the value delivery.”
This latest entry in the multi-million selling franchise takes place in Leonida, a fictional US stated based heavily on Florida, and follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a romantically involved crime duo who, after a failed bank heist, become embroiled in a state-wide conspiracy and must protect each other. Other characters include Jason’s friend Cal Hampton, record label owner Dre-Quan Priest, and Brian Heder, a long-time drug runner around the Leonida Keys. Players are able to explore a massive open world that includes areas inspired by the Everglades, Miami, and Florida Keys, and you can be there will be an absolute tidal wave of side activities to take part in along the way.
Grand Theft Auto VI is launching for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.
