Warhorse Studios Won’t Say If It’s Making A Lord Of The Rings Game, But Whatever Comes Next Will Be A ‘Huge, Immersive RPG’

Warhorse Studios, the developer behind Kingdom Come Deliverance II, has addressed rumours that it’s beavering away on Lord of the Rings title, and while it unsurprisingly won’t confirm or deny anything, but made it clear that whatever comes next will be sticking firmly to the ‘immersive RPG ‘ roots it’s known for.
Speaking in a post on Reddit, Warhorse Studios’ Community Manager, Tom Grey, stated “Obviously we can’t comment on future projects, at least not until we’re in the future (but if you have a time machine, please show us!).” Slightly more forthcoming was Ondrej Bittner, the company’s content director, who added, “Voila, there is a response! But unfortunately not the one you hope for. We are hard at work on….something. I cannot disclose details but I can tell it is a huge, immersive RPG.”
Chatter about Warhorse Studios working on a Lord of the Rings game emerged at the end of March 2026, when games industry veteran Ryszard Chojnowski reportedly revealed on a podcast that he caught wind that the title is in the works at the Kingdom Come Deliverance studio. Previously, a Lord of the Rings project was outed by Insider Gaming in September 2025, which stated that the Abu Dhabi Investment Office was putting $100 into the project, which was described as a third-person action game similar to Hogwarts Legacy.
Interestingly, just a day or two after news broke about Warhorse allegedly working on a game based on J.R.R Tolkien’s fantasy series, it was reported that Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics was working on a The Lord of the Rings title. However, this is believed to be separate to the one Warhorse is working on, and that this project is the one that allegedly received funding from the ADIO.
It looks like we won’t know for a while who is working on The Lord of the Rings’ next video game outing, although we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop. Let’s just hope it’s better than The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, eh?
