Pentiment PS5 Reportedly Triggers 120Hz Mode On Compatible TVs, Runs Better Than Xbox Series Version

Pentiment is one of the first batch of Xbox Series X/S titles to arrive on PS5, and according to a report on Reddit, Obsidian Entertainment’s title appears to trigger 120Hz mode on compatible TVs when you boot up the console. This is better than the Xbox Series X/S version, which clocks in at 60FPS.

Obviously this is just an observation from one player, but others in the comments section have also backed up claims that Pentiment runs at 120Hz, although we won’t know for sure until someone (hopefully DF) does a proper test.

When you boot the game on a PS5, it triggers the 120hz mode on you TV. Now, I know hz isn’t fps but the PS5 only triggers the mode if the game has been programmed for HFR mode (high framerate) or the 40fps mode we see in some games. I can’t check the framerate on my TV, but it seems the game is running in HFR 60+ FPS mode, so up to 120fps.

Pentiment was release for the PS5 yesterday and will be joined by other Xbox titles including Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves. The game was originally released for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in November 2022, and sees players controlling journeyman artist Andreas Maler, who becomes caught up a series of mysterious murders in Upper Bavaria.
