Sony’s Jim Ryan Says Its Relationship With Square Enix ‘Has Never Been Stronger’
Jim Ryan, CEO and President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, popped up during the Final Fantasy XVI pre-release stream over the weekend to proclaim that the format holder’s relationship with Square Enix is stronger than ever. Not surprisingly, seeing as how the game is a PS5 console-exclusive!
Ryan commented that Sony’s relationship with the Final Fantasy creator has “never been stronger,” and that its collaboration with Square Enix “goes back to the start of PlayStation’s existence,” back when it was known as SquareSoft. He added that he values “everything we do together and your commitment to our brand and business.”

Final Fantasy XVI is due out on June 22, 2023 for PS5, with a playable demo now available to download that encompasses the first few hours of the game. In the same pre-release stream, it was confirmed that the Kingdom Hearts team and Platinum Games contributed to development of the game.
