Infinity Ward Confirms Call Of Duty 2026 Is A Modern Warfare Game

Infinity Ward has revealed that this year’s Call of Duty game will indeed be part of the Modern Warfare series, following numerous rumours dating back months that claimed the studio is working on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4.
While it didn’t divulge the actual title of Call of Duty 2026, the developer revealed on its X account, “Yes, we are making the definitive Modern Warfare.” Beyond that, Mark Grigsby and Jack ‘O Hara, who recently assumed the role of joint studio heads at Infinity Ward, offered some more details in the following message:
We are Infinity Ward. We build visceral, immersive combat experiences that hit different. As a new chapter begins for this studio, we’re focused on what defines us: passion, precision, obsession, and an unrelenting drive to make the best entertainment in the industry. Our next game is the result of that mindset. Determined. Bold. Relentless. Built by a team pushing every detail, every system, every moment to its limit. On behalf of everyone at IW, we’re proud of what we’ve been building and excited to finally start sharing it with you.
Mark and Jack.
Studio Heads IW.
As we mentioned, this is far from the first we’ve heard about this year’s Call of Duty. Back in late 2024, respected leaker TheGhostofHope stated that Infinity Ward’s next project would be a new Modern Warfare game, and would feature wall running mechanics. They also said that the studio was taking steps to avoid the same mistakes it did with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, which was heavily criticised for its short length.
In April this year, CharlieIntel, which has long been a source of all things Call of Duty, responded to a post by Call of Duty content creator TDAWG claiming the game would be out on September 22, stating “it’ll be October” in regards to the game’s release window. Furthermore, Activision itself has confirmed that the new Call of Duty won’t be released on PS4.
In related news, a movie adaptation of Call of Duty has been confirmed and is currently slated to arrive in cinemas in June 2028.
