Sony Hasn’t Decided On The PS6 Release And Price, Says The Company’s President & CEO

Hiroki Totoki, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has revealed that it hasn’t decided on the PS6 release date and price yet.
Speaking during the format holder’s latest financial results, the Totoki-san it anticipates income to be flat year-on-year as a result “of an increase in investments for the next-generation platform.” During the call, one journalist asked for an update regarding how the increased costs of components including RAM has impacted the price of PS5, and how it may affect the upcoming PS6.
In response, the executive stated that as the memory price increases, the cost of Bills of Material (BOM) and the price of manufacturing will increase as a result, potentially having a major impact on hardware. For the rest of the calendar year 2026 however, Totoki noted that Sony has secured the necessary number of materials required and has “to a certain extent agreed on the price itself.”
“We have not yet decided on at what timing we will launch the new console, or at what prices,” he said in regards to the PS6. “So we would like to really observe and follow the situation. Looking at the current circumstances, the memory price is also expected to be very high FY 2027, because there will still be a shortage of supply. So under that assumption, we must think carefully what we will do.”
“We would like to think about various simulations, including changing business models to come up with the best solution and strategy,” Totoki added.
The PS6 still hasn’t been officially announced by Sony yet, but we’ve been hearing a lot about the system from hardware insiders over the past couple of years. Recently, Moore’s Law Is Dead stated that the PS6 will be backwards compatible with PS4 and PS5 games, while Kepler_L2 believes that the system will not receive a ‘Lite’ model as it would be a ‘nightmare’ for developers. The PS6 is heavily rumoured to launch in late 2027.
