IO Interactive CEO Confirms Project Fantasy ‘Is In A Very Healthy Place’

Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, has revealed during an interview with The Game Business that the company’s Project Fantasy is still in the works, although remained tight-lipped on any further details.

So, first of all, I’m not going to answer what partner it is. I’m not going to confirm or deny anything,” Abrak commented. “To the second part of the question, it is in a very healthy place, it’s still financed, and it’s amazing.”

Project Fantasy is a brand new IP from the Hitman creator and takes the form of an online fantasy RPG, and is designed from the ground up to be expanded on to keep players invested for many years. The game was announced in February 2023 and it was heavily speculated that the title would be exclusive to Xbox, as per details revealed in documents regarding Microsoft’s court battle with the FTC over the former’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

Here’s a few details from IO Interactive’s official website:

Now we are sharing with all of you, that we are embarking on a new adventure! One that expands our creativity, our capabilities, and in some sense our identity. We are building a new world, a new IP – an online fantasy RPG. A world and a game built from the core to entertain players and expand for many years to come. It feels familiar, yet at the same time IOI is going on a journey unlike any we have been on before.
