Team Cherry announces Hollow Knight and Silksong updates for 2026

If you haven’t heard of Hollow Knight, well, you really have been missing out. This indie darling from Australian developer Team Cherry launched in 2017 on PC and 2018 on Nintendo Switch, taking the gaming world by storm. In 2025, fans were finally treated to the long-awaited sequel, Silksong, which was revealed a mere two weeks before release. But, as with anything, we’re always thirsty for more. And today, Team Cherry announced what’s next for its pair of games.
First up is news of Silksong’s initial wave of downloadable content. This nautically themed expansion promises to deliver new areas, bosses, tools, and more when it hits consoles and Steam in 2026. Although no specific release date was revealed, with 2026 just around the corner, we don’t expect a long wait. The best part? The content comes to all players free of charge.
The team promises to reveal more info shortly before Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow releases, so stay tuned for further details. In the meantime, you can view the Sea of Sorrows teaser below for a taste of what’s to come.
Next up is news on the original Hollow Knight, which the team affectionately refers to as Silksong’s sibling. Not content to rest even eight years later, Hollow Knight is being primed for a Switch 2 Edition. This will come as a free upgrade for owners of the existing Switch title, bringing updated framerates, higher resolutions, and many additional graphical effects. The game looked terrific to being with, though Silksong on Switch 2 is simply subline. We can’t wait to see Hollow Knight in all its HD glory when it hits Switch 2 in 2026.
The announcements come on the heels of Silksong’s success, with the team stating that the sequel has sold over seven million copies since releasing in September. The team’s message of thanks was heartwarming in itself.
It’s a truly staggering number of players, more than we could have ever expected (enough to crash all of the storefronts!). Watching the community grow, seeing the amazing art, the mods, the unexpected strategies, and the support between players through the game’s challenges has been hugely rewarding for us here at home. Your continued enthusiasm remains a massive motivator as we work towards expanding the game even further.
