Take-Two Confirms GTA VI Development Began ‘In Earnest’ In 2020 Following Red Dead Redemption 2’s ‘Massive Success’

Take-Two has revealed during the company’s latest financial report that development of Grand Theft Auto VI kicked off “in earnest” in 2020 following the huge success of Red Dead Redemption 2.

The subject of when GTA VI stated development recently reared its head after a former Rockstar North developer stated he began working on the game in 2018. Take-Two’s description of GTA VI starting production “in earnest” in 2020 suggests that Rockstar been working on it before that period. And, given that Red Dead Redemption 2 came out in 2018, this fits neatly in with the aforementioned ex-Rockstar employee’s own claims.
