Sky Mavis’ Axie Infinity is back with a new web3 MMO coming to mobile and PC titled Axie Infinity: Atia’s Legacy.
The game is expected to feature squad-based real-time battles, crafting, side quests and missions in an adventure through ancient ruins, shadowy depths and more.
Already leaning into its blockchain elements, the pre-registration campaign is encouraging players to refer friends to sign up too, with successful referrals earning them AXS tokens.
Web3 fans can already connect their wallets and share referral links via Axie Infinity’s website.
Alpha ahoy
Atia’s Legacy began development in May 2024 and has a playable phased alpha in the pipeline, expected to release with features including core combat and progression. This will be followed by the addition of story missions, crafting, PvP and social features.
There are currently more than 60,000 sign-ups.
“We’re taking everything we’ve learned throughout seven years of building and powering web3 games and putting these lessons into one MMO,” Sky Mavis said.
“If everything goes as planned, we’ll have playtests this year at semi-regular intervals for our most ardent supporters.”
After launching in 2018, the original Axie Infinity was among the major blockchain games to have surged during the pandemic, having landed its Vietnamese developer a $3 billion valuation in 2021. The title’s ecosystem crashed in 2022, however, when the AXS currency tumbled by 85% over six months.
Sky Mavis also had $625 million worth of cryptocurrency stolen from its Ronin Network that same year.
Despite this turbulence, the company has continued to release new instalments in the series such as Axie Infinity: Origins and Axie Infinity: Homeland.
Sky Mavis has claimed to have 270,000 monthly active users in its ecosystem, with over $4bn in NFT trading volume since 2018. There are also over two million unique owners of Axie characters.
