Neil Druckmann Says “Don’t Bet On There Being More Of ‘The Last Of Us,'” When Asked About The Last Of Us Part III
With HBO’s The Last Of Us set to premiere its second season this coming April 13, 2025, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann continue to participate in interviews, building up the excitement for fans while also providing some anecdotes along the way.
Of course most of these interviews focus on the new season of the show, but there are still questions being asked about what the future of The Last Of Us looks like in regards to the games.
Despite Druckmann previously teasing that he thinks “there’s more story to tell,” in a recent interview with Variety, when asked about The Last Of Us Part III, Druckman replied “don’t bet on there being more of ‘The Last Of Us.’ This could be it.”
When Druckmann teased that there was “more story to tell,” we weren’t yet aware of the fact that Naughty Dog’s next big project was Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Of course, Druckmann could be tempering player’s expectations. In the time between now, and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet releasing, it could be that Naughty Dog is looking to move on to something else, if not continue the story its telling in The Heretic Prophet.
And considering how long it takes to make the kinds of games Naughty Dog makes, it could very well be the case that Druckmann and Naughty Dog never return to make another game in the franchise, and the series finale that wraps up the story of The Last Of Us Part II is the last time we have anything ‘new’ from The Last Of Us to look forward to.
Only time will tell, of course.
