Fortnite creator Epic Games will launch its new open content marketplace, Fab, in mid-October as a successor to Unreal Engine marketplace.
After announcing the platform at GDC last year, Epic shared in a blog post that Fab will be “a one-stop destination where you can discover, buy, sell, and share assets.”
The new platform, which is also a successor to Sketchfab, ArtStation Marketplace and Quixel, will offer an 88/12 revenue share that prioritises creators and helps them build sustainable businesses.
An imminent launch
To prepare for Fab’s launch, the Fab Publishing Portal opens in two phases. The first allows Unreal Engine Marketplace creators to migrate their products to Fab.
Then in early October, new publishers can sign up, and a migration tool will be available for the Sketchfab community. The ArtStation Marketplace will remain operational until 2025, when its products can be moved to Fab.
From Fab’s launch next month until the end of 2024, publishers will earn 100% of revenue on Fab Standard-licensed product sales.
Also, as part of a launch promotion with Adobe, users who publish a Fab-licensed product or make a minimum purchase of $25 will receive a free 6-month subscription to Adobe Substance Painter and Modeler.
