Atari’s Anniversary Celebration Returns To Xbox With 39 New Games This October

Back at the end of 2022, Atari fans were treated to a fantastic new “Anniversary Celebration” on Xbox which combined a huge list of playable classics with a museum-style walkthrough of the company’s storied history.

Now, Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is getting an “Extended Edition” for Xbox on October 25th, introducing another 39 playable games alongside two timelines of additional historic content to explore.

Those two timelines are The Wider World of Atari and The First Console War:

The Wider World of Atari timeline, which includes 19 playable games and eight video segments, takes a series of deep dives into stories from Atari history, showing how Atari continued to influence creators and fans over the decades. New interviews, vintage ads, historical artifacts, and more have all been researched and presented with Digital Eclipse’s signature style.”

The First Console War timeline, which includes 20 playable games and half-dozen video segments, tells the story of the first major console war in the gaming industry between the Atari 2600 and Mattel’s Intellivision. The team at Digital Eclipse curates an exploration of the rivalry, including Mattel’s quixotic decision to create games for the competing Atari 2600.”

We don’t have the full list of 39 games that will be included in Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration’s Expanded Edition yet (we have asked for it though!), but apparently, highlights of these two new timelines will include a deep dive into Berzerk, hidden gems from the late ’80s, a selection of M Network games including fan favourites, some rare Atari 2600 and 5200 prototypes, and a whole lot more.

If you already own Atari 50 on Xbox, you’ll be offered these new games and timelines in the form of DLC later this year, while the new Expanded Edition will be available digitally on the Xbox Store.
