Final Fantasy VII Revelation Could Have One Of The Biggest Download Sizes In Xbox History

The next few months are going to be painful for Xbox storage space, folks. Not only have we got the likes of GTA 6 and Fable on the way, which are surely going to be well over the 100GB mark (and the rest), but the director of Final Fantasy VII Revelation has also suggested it’s going to have one of the biggest download sizes in Xbox history.
According to Naoki Hamaguchi in a new interview with VGC, Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be around the 200GB mark when it launches in April of 2027, which explains why it can’t ship entirely on one or even two discs.
He nevertheless says that delivering “some kind of physical product” remains important to the team:
“Things are still getting worked out, but it’s probably going to be around 200GB of game. I understand there are a lot of opinions about this topic, but at the end of the day, the fact is we need to overcome the hardware to a certain extent. One thing I want to say is, even though the game will not be on the full disc, in the position we’re in, because discs may be dying out, or maybe staying, with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, we definitely wanted to deliver some kind of physical product. That was really important to us. Trust me!”
Assuming they aren’t able to bring the download size down, FFVII Revelation will find itself in the company of games from the likes of Call of Duty, ARK, NBA 2K and various others that are packing huge download and install sizes.
It’s not a massive deal for Xbox Series X owners who can fit a bunch of games on their console at once, but Xbox Series S owners who want to play all of these big hitters in 2027 will have to do some thinking – either delete their games and reinstall them as necessary, or perhaps consider an Xbox Expansion Card to boost their free space.
We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it, eh? For now, we’re just excited to finally finish the FF7 remake trilogy next year!
