Mortal Kombat 1 adds a Halloween fatality…for a price
We live in an era where games are going absolutely wild with nickel and diming consumers. Buying a game for a base price and then paying for expansions, cosmetic DLC, new characters and more is the norm. Mortal Kombat 1 is taking that idea even further by asking players to pay for access to a fatality.
The most recent patch notes for Mortal Kombat 1 mentioned that a “Halloween Fatality” would be added to the Premium Store, and players were quick to share their anger about the move. While some held out hope that this wouldn’t require players to spend real-world cash for a fatality, Warner Bros. confirmed that those interested would have to cough up cash when the fatality arrives on Oct. 27th, 2023.
This move has caused even more concern with players, as they’re worried this is just the start of microtransactions for Mortal Kombat 1. Just how many other fatalities will be pay-to-access, and what other content is going to be kept behind a paywall? Warner Bros. and NetherRealm aren’t saying, but we’ll likely find out the hard way in the future.
