Here’s What The Mafia: Definitive Edition Upgrade Looks Like On Xbox Series X|S
Update []: We’ve also now got some Xbox Series S footage, which we’ve added to the bottom of the article. It shows the game running at a smooth 60FPS with a resolution of around 1080p.
Original Story: Today’s the day for the free Mafia: Definitive Edition upgrade (for digital owners of the game) on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and I’ve personally been eagerly awaiting its arrival for the past 24 hours.
If you haven’t managed to locate it yet, you’ll want to look for something called “Mafia: Definitive Edition for XBOX Series X|S” on the Microsoft Store – it’s a totally separate game to the original Xbox One version. As long as you own Mafia: DE in digital form already, it should be showing as a free download.
It’s still early days for this upgrade and we’re waiting on footage of both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions to hit the web over the next few hours, but in the meantime, I’ve been grabbing some screenshots from the Xbox One X and Xbox Series X versions to compare the differences from a visual perspective.
Take-Two and 2K Games said nothing about the graphical changes prior to release aside from “technical improvements”, but it appears the game has at least received a resolution boost (you notice it in person more than in the screenshots), and it seems the lighting has improved as well.
As for the frame rate, it’s finally now running at what appears to be a smooth 60 frames per-second, although it should be noted I’m playing on a VRR-supported display. Still, this is a notable change over the previous 30FPS version.
Stay tuned for some video footage of both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions in the near future, which we’ll add to this article ASAP (this is now starting to roll out, and we’ve added it below).

However, keep in mind that some detail is lost in the process of uploading them, and you can’t really appreciate any resolution differences from still photos like these.
