Jim Ross Says Broadcasting Career May Be Nearing Its End

Jim Ross says his broadcasting career may be nearing its end as his current contract with AEW remains scheduled to expire this month.

Speaking on Episode 383 of Grilling JR, Ross said he does not want to stop announcing, but would accept AEW President Tony Khan deciding not to renew their relationship.

Ross said his priority is having advance notice and a deliberate closing moment rather than unexpectedly appearing on television and announcing that he is finished.

“I hope that my ending, my career ending, is planned.”

The WWE Hall of Famer said he wants a “good, clean ending” after a broadcasting career that has included major events for multiple promotions. Ross acknowledged that his time behind the microphone is nearing its conclusion, but stopped short of announcing his retirement.

“I don’t want to be done,” Ross said. He added that he would understand if Khan thanked him for his contributions and allowed the contract to expire, pointing to everything he has already experienced during his career.

The comments came during the same episode in which Ross confirmed that he is scheduled to undergo brain surgery on Wednesday, August 12. The procedure will involve inserting a shunt to drain excess fluid from his brain.

Ross has also expressed hope that he can return for AEW All In: London at Wembley Stadium on August 30. AEW has not announced a new contract for Ross, and Ross has not confirmed that his broadcasting career is over.
