CM Punk Pays Tribute To Dory Funk Jr. At WWE Live Event
CM Punk honored the late Dory Funk Jr. during WWE’s live event in Fairfax, Virginia, on Thursday night.
Punk teamed with Cody Rhodes to defeat Gunther and Ricky Saints in the evening’s main event at EagleBank Arena, where the show drew a reported 5,680 fans.
After delivering a Go To Sleep to Saints to set up the finish, Punk opted against making the cover. Instead, he applied the spinning toe hold, the signature submission made famous by Dory Funk Jr., who passed away on August 4 at the age of 85.
The spinning toe hold was also closely associated with Dory’s brother, Terry Funk, throughout his legendary career.
The tribute comes just days after Punk paid homage to Terry Funk at WWE SummerSlam, where he attempted a crooked moonsault reminiscent of the unorthodox version Terry used during the latter stages of his career.
Also at the WWE Fairfax stop on the ongoing 2026 WWE Summer Tour, CM Punk cut a promo about “what went down at SummerSlam” and made a promise.
