Naoki Hamaguchi Says Potential Final Fantasy VI Remake Would ‘Be In Better Hands If It Went To Another Creator In Square Enix’

Final Fantasy VII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi has touched base on a potential Final Fantasy VI Remake during a chat with Game Informer, suggesting it would be better off in the hands of someone else at Square Enix despite fans calling for him to helm the project.
I do see a lot of fans and community asking me to take on the helm for a [hypothetical] FF6 remake. So, I’m seeing a lot of that floating online, but, you know, a Final Fantasy 6 Remake or any other remake, it could be me, or it could be someone else. Personally, I think that it might be in better hands if it went to another creator in Square Enix.
“Right in this moment, I’m fully focused on completing FF7 Revelation and ensuring we’re delivering the FF7 Remake series in a perfect state, so that’s where I’m right now,” he added.
This isn’t the first time that Hamaguchi has spoken about a possible FFVI Remake. Back in January this year, he told GamerBraves that he’s aware of the demand from fans regarding a remake of that title, he would prefer that “a new creator” take the helm on a hypothetical FFVI Remake. So, it sounds like he hasn’t changed his mind in that respect.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release in Spring 2027 for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
