Rumour — New Ghost Recon Game Is Struggling In Development Following Changes Made By Ubisoft Management

According to a report on Insider Gaming, Ubisoft’s next Ghost Recon game isn’t having the smoothest of rides in development, with sources claiming Project OVR are “bracing for impact” after a number of changes were implemented by management.

A memo viewed by the site states that the Alpha for the new Ghost Recon project failed to meet internal objectives, resulting in Ubisoft appointing Bruno Galet as senior producer to oversee Project OVR. Meanwhile, Jean-Baptiste Duval, VP of Production, and VP of the Global Creative Office Julien Sansalone are involved to be “more present on a day-to-day basis,” including having a presence on the work floor.

A number of people also revealed (on the condition of anonymity) that the Ghost Recon title has been plagued by “unrealistic deadlines and poor planning and management.” Furthermore, Ubisoft HQ reportedly rejected alternative production plans that were put forward during the review, and some feel that the directors are simply doing what they want rather than listening to feedback.

One source commented, “If I were to receive this email on a production, it would generally mean things are in a bad way.” The demo does, however, note that the foundation of Project OVR is “strong” and the game’s success remains a priority for Ubisoft.

Ubisoft revealed last month that it was working on new instalments in the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon franchises, which would be released by the end of its 2028 – 2029 fiscal year. Insider Gaming reported back in April last year that the new Ghost Recon title was set to enter its Alpha phase at the end of the year, and suggested that the period of going from internal Alpha to final release could take as long as 12 months.

Given the issues described above however, it doesn’t sound like we’ll be seeing the new Ghost Recon game see the light of day this year. Keep in mind that nothing official has been confirmed by Ubisoft yet, so take this info with a pinch of salt just to be safe.
