Bungie Reportedly Set To Lose Around 400 Staff Members As A Result Of Summer Layoffs

Destiny 2 developer Bungie is reportedly facing a large number of layoffs this summer that could see around 50% employees laid off, according to French journalist Sylvain on X.

To put things into perspective, Bungie has around 800 employees, so that would mean that 400 staff members are at risk of losing their jobs their jobs. Sylvain noted that the former Halo developer should ‘expect massive layoffs this Summer,’ and follows Bungie’s decision to stop support for Destiny 2, wth its final update arriving earlier this month.

Furthermore, Sony posted a $765 million impairment loss due to the poor performance of Bungie games during its latest financial quarter, including Destiny 2 and Marathon. Speaking of the latter, it was reported this week that the game’s free week period and the launch of season 2 failed to turn things around of the troubled shooter.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about impending layoffs at Bungie. Last month, Bloomberg stated that the studio was facing ‘significant layoffs’ and claimed that a third entry in the Destiny franchise was not on the cards at this point.
