Xbox Boss Declares Game Pass Is ‘Too Expensive’ And Needs A ‘Better Value Equation’

It’s official! New Xbox boss Asha Sharma wants to make Xbox and PC Game Pass more affordable in the future.
This is courtesy of a leaked memo that’s been shared by The Verge today, in which the Xbox head and Microsoft Gaming CEO told employees that the current model of Game Pass “isn’t the final one” and requires a “better value equation”. She also mentioned that it will evolve long-term into “a more flexible system”.
Here’s a look at the quote:
“Game Pass is central to gaming value on Xbox. It’s also clear that the current model isn’t the final one. Short term, Game Pass has become too expensive for players, so we need a better value equation. Long term, we will evolve Game Pass into a more flexible system which will take time to test and learn around.”
Of course, Microsoft has increased the prices for Xbox Game Pass multiple times in recent years, and the announcement has always gone down like a lead balloon. The Verge says that Call of Duty may have had a role to play in the most recent set of Game Pass price rises, which might be why they’re considering avoiding XGP with the 2026 Call of Duty game — at least according to a recent rumour from Windows Central’s Jez Corden.
Whatever the case may be, Sharma apparently mentioned that she’s aware of the chatter that’s been circling online regarding Game Pass and potential price cuts, but there are no signs that changes will be happening immediately.
We’ll obviously keep an eye on this and let you know ASAP if and when more details arise.
