Metro 2039 Officially Confirmed By 4A Games, Full Reveal Set For April 16

Developer 4A Games has announced that Metro 2039 is indeed the name for the next chapter in the popular franchise, and will be announced in full on April 16 during an Xbox-partnered stream. This follows previous reports over the weekend that the game would be revealed on that date.

If you’re interested in tuning in for the reveal, the event will take place at 10.00am PST/1.00pm EST/6.00pm BST. “Xbox has always been a home for the franchise, and we’re honored to continue that relationship by bringing you a first look at this next exciting chapter,” 4A Games said in a post on social media.

4A Games had previously stated back in 2025 that it was working on the next Metro game, although admitted that that the Russian invasion of Ukraine had changed how the studio would tell its story. The video game franchise is based on the novels by Dmitry Glukhovsk, with the last major entry being Metro Exodus, which released in 2019 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One.

Metro Exodus was re-released for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2021 under the Complete Edition moniker, featuring enhanced visuals and performance. You can read our full review here. Back in early 2022, Embracer Group announced that Metro Exodus has sold six million copies worldwide.
