Staff At Ubisoft Are Voting To Strike Against Proposed Layoffs

Following news that Ubisoft was proposing a loss of 200 jobs at its Paris headquarters, French unions have agreed to organised a strike against the Assassin’s Creed publisher on February 10 — 12, 2026.
French publication Les Echos has revealed that a number unions representing Ubisoft employees — including the Video Game Workers’ Union, Solidaires Informatique, CFE-CGC, CGT, and Printemps Ecologique — have all agreed to the strike next month. Furthermore, in an effort to raise awareness of the situation globally, the unions have agreed to collaborate with their international counterparts.
Ubisoft’s proposed layoffs come as part of an ongoing effort to reduce its fixed costs over the next two years by €200 million. Layoffs are expected to impact 20% of the publisher’s headquarters staff and 5% of its overall workforce in France.
Ubisoft announced last week that it was undergoing a major company restructuring, which has resulted in the cancellation of six games including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Furthermore, seven other titles have been delayed, and the publisher is requesting that staff return to the office five days a week.
One of the games delayed is believed to be the long-rumoured Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake, which is now said to have been postponed by up to one year.
