Xbox Is Selling New ‘Limited Edition’ SpongeBob Controllers, But They Don’t Come Cheap

It’s not very often that we see Xbox selling custom controllers these days (we’re usually just restricted to new colour schemes), but we’ve suddenly got a handful of new ones – all based around the upcoming SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, and bizarrely not the Titans of the Tide game that’s launching on Xbox today.

The one that you can just outright buy is known as the “Xbox Wireless Controller – The SpongeBob Movie Limited Edition” and features a close-up of SpongeBob’s face complete with bright yellow thumbsticks, an orange D-pad and metallic blue triggers. This retails for a fairly eye-watering £86.27 / $98.97 exclusively on the Microsoft Store.

The two other versions are part of the Xbox Design Lab program, with the first being a customisable take on the SpongeBob Movie Limited Edition controller that starts at £86.27 / $98.97 and then ramps up depending on what you add (like rubberised grips and engravings), while the other adopts the same design but is based on the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller, this time starting at £147.98 / $184.98 and increasing from there.

This comparison shot does a good job of highlighting the three controller options:

Microsoft says all of these will only be available “for a limited time”, and there’s actually free shipping on the standard version of the controller as well. Keep in mind that you can use your Microsoft Rewards points to help with the cost of one of these, so it may not end up being as expensive as it sounds!

We’ll leave you with a few more images of these controllers down below, and you can watch the trailer up above.
