Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Campaign To Feature ‘Open Combat Missions’ With More Player Choice

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s big reveal took place yesterday within Warzone as Activision fully lifted the lid on this year’s CoD title. Thankfully for those who couldn’t participate, an accompanying blog post has laid out lots of information ahead of November’s launch, and some of the game’s campaign details have us intrigued.

It sounds like the team at Sledgehammer Games is going a bit more ‘open world’ with MW3’s single player portion. Here’s how Activision & Co. are describing the game’s campaign:

“In the direct sequel to the record-breaking Modern Warfare II, Captain Price, and Task Force 141 face off against the ultimate threat. The ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov is extending his grasp across the world, causing Task Force 141 to fight like never before.

Combat means making decisions; using different Loadouts and planning different paths through every operation across an involved and thrilling Campaign.”

And here’s a bit more info on the game’s new “Open Combat Missions”:

“Open Combat Missions (OCMs) are an exciting innovation to the Call of Duty Campaign. Not only do these complement the cinematic missions you’ve come to expect, but they also provide you with numerous additional choices regarding your methods of mission completion.

You have the flexibility to maneuver across the sizable landscape of a mission’s AO and approach objectives from multiple angles. You can truly play how you want to play, and Open Combat Missions will support it.”

If Call of Duty’s other modes are also of interest, the full blog post lays out some important information on multiplayer and the recently unveiled Zombies mode. Multiplayer will launch with remastered versions of all 16 Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps — with brand-new levels to come after launch — while Zombies will provide a unique large-scale spin on the series’ PvE mode this year.

Modern Warfare 3 is coming to Xbox consoles on November 10th, and no, it won’t be a part of Xbox Game Pass despite Microsoft’s ongoing mission to acquire the Call of Duty owner. We’ll have to fork out for CoD this year, but hopefully that will change one day if and when the deal goes through!
