Classic 90s Retro Shooters Heretic + Hexen Come To PS5 & PS4 With Multiple Enhancements
Heretic + Hexen remasters are now available for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, Bethesda Studios, id Software and Nightdive Studios have announced.
Originally released in the mid-90s, Heretic and Hexen introduced a number of features that would become industry standards, such as inventory, vertical aiming, and character classes, which helped evolve the first-person action genre for years to come. This re-release features Heretic: Shadows of the Serpent Riders, Hexen: Beyond Heretic, Hexen: Deathkings of the Citadel, and Heretic: Faith Renewed and Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur, both new episodes developed by folk at id Software and Nightdive Studios.

The remasters feature a boatload of enhancements for modern platforms, including support for online cross-platform deathmatch and co-op for up to 16 players, plus local split-screen deathmatch for up to eight players. Performance has also been improved to allow for up to 4K resolution and 120 FPS, while widescreen, quick save/load, modern controller support, and 12 new languages are all included.
Heretic was first out the door in 1994 for DOS and Mac DOS, and up until now had never seen an official console release. Hexen: Beyond Heretic was developed by Raven Software and released in 1995 for MS-DOS, and arrived for the PC in 1997 followed by console ports for Nintendo 64, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn.
Heretic and Hexen are now available for PS5 & PS4.
