Sony Still Has No Plans To Offer First-Party Games Day One For PS Plus Members
Speaking during an interview with Stephen Totilo, Nick Maguire, Vice President of Global Services at PlayStation, has said the hardware manufacturer has no plans to offer first-party titles day one for PS Plus members.
We’ve sort of stayed true to our strategy across the board, where we’re not looking to put games in day and date. Our strategy of finding four or five independent day-and-date titles—and using that to complement our strategy of bringing games in when they’re 12, 18 months old or older—that balance for us is working really well across the platform.

PlayStation Plus celebrates its 15th anniversary later this month, having first launch in late June 2010. Sony began issuing free games monthly for PS3 and later included PS Vita and PS4 over the next few years, although eventually phased out everything but PS5 and PS4 games. However, as of January 2026, PS4 games are going to become more of rare offering as Sony shifts focus to offering PS5 titles.
Elsewhere in the interview, Maguire stated that it’s possible Sony may offer more PS3 games for the PS Plus Catalog, which is a format that has arguably been neglected the most as far as PS Plus is concerned. Unlike PS1, PS2 and PSP games, PS3 titles included in PS Plus have to be streamed; they’re not able to be dowloaded and played directly off the PS5 due to the technical issues that stem from the Cell processor the PS3 uses.
