Epic Games is set to launch a new mobile-first game mode in Fortnite called Blitz Royale on Wednesday, June 18th.

The move comes shortly after the game’s return to the US App Store following enforced changes to Apple’s App Store policies regarding linkouts to alternative payment methods and anti-steering policies.

Designed for mobile but available on all platforms, Fortnite Blitz Royale features “rogue-like” design, five-minute gameplay sessions and cross-play. Epic did not provide any further details on the mode.

Busy week

The new mode launches as Epic has partnered with 16-time Grammy winner Bruno Mars to be the Fortnite Festival Season 9 icon. The partnership will also see Bruno Mars-related cosmetics and jam tracks available in the game.

Meanwhile, Epic is also launching Lego Fortnite Expeditions on June 18th, a new PvE experience in which up to four players in which players can explore, defeat waves of enemies and rescue citizens.

Its the latest development in Epic’s long-term partnership with Lego announced in April 2022 to build games aimed at children and families. That deal was shortly followed by Kirkbi, the family-owned company behind the Lego Group, and Sony each investing $1 billion into the company.
