The Retroid Pocket Flip 2’s color options are giving serious Y2K vibes
The maker of the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 confirmed today which colors the device comes in, along with the full list of specs in the two versions. And we must say, we love the look of this gadget – it reminds us of old Nintendo consoles with its clamshell design and vintage colorways.
The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 now has four different color options including a sleek black, a see-through ‘Ice Blue’, a silver in ‘16Bit US’, and ‘GC’, which is a classic purple with buttons following the iconic Nintendo GameCube’s color scheme.
Remember when you were a kid, and you could get those computers made of see-through orange plastic? OK, maybe not, and maybe I’m just old, but the 2000’s loved see-through plastic. It should come back into fashion alongside the low-rise jeans and body glitter, to be honest.
Of course, as it’s a new version of one of the best handheld consoles out there, it comes with some upgrades inside as well as the outside aesthetics. There are two options for processors in the Flip 2 – the Qualcomm Snapdragon SD865 and the MediaTek Dimensity1100. Both run on Android 13, contain active cooling, a 5000mAh battery, and 128GB of storage.
Aside from the processor, the other difference is that the SD865 charges at 27 watts in comparison to the D1100’s 18-watt charge speed. You can see a full list of specs in this post on X, and a comparison of the two processors here.
Something we’re interested to see is how well it compares to older handhelds, given it only has one screen – but then, we all loved the GameBoy Advance SP, didn’t we? Prices and pre-order information are not currently available for the Retroid Pocket Flip 2, but are coming soon according to Retroid’s announcement.
Will you be getting the Flip 2? If not, we can recommend some of the other best retro handhelds, or the best budget gaming phones on the market for something a bit more modern.
