Insomniac Is “Interested” In Doing Film/TV Adaptations Of Their Games, Particularly With Ratchet & Clank
Insomniac has new leadership for the first time in years, as longtime chief executive officer Ted Price announced he’ll be retiring in March 2025.
Three of Insomniac’s veterans will be taking his place. Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang, who will each split the various responsibilities of chief executive officer in different ways. Since this is the first day that Dezern, Schneider and Huang are publicly stepping into the role, there’s a lot of questions for them around the future of the studio.
One of the big questions asked in an interview with Variety, was whether or not the three are open to film and TV adaptations of Insomniac’s games.
Scheneider responded, saying “I think back to the ‘Ratchet & Clank’ film from several years ago. And we kind of got an early start on that. So, of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love ‘Ratchet & Clank’ in particular.”
Frankly, after the success of the Super Mario Bros film and the Sonic film franchise, it would be sort of shocking, if PlayStation Productions wasn’t already working on a way to bring Ratchet & Clank back to the big or even small screen.
Though the 2016 film Schneider references failed to make any real waves, we’ve since entered a new era of video game to film/TV adaptations. A second at-bat with the Lombax and his metallic companion would have a serious chance at turning into a new film or TV franchise, if executed correctly.
