Jeff Grubb Says Not To Expect PlayStation Showcase/State Of Play Event In December
Man looking to kill the hopes and dreams of PlayStation players everywhere that just want something to believe in, Jeff Grubb, says that players shouldn’t have their hopes up for a PlayStation Showcase or State Of Play event this coming December.
Yesterday, PlayStation published a new “Play Has No Limits” trailer, which includes a moment that many fans believe to be a tease for a coming event. There’s a very quick shot where the date December 3, 2024 is displayed, which is also the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation platform.
Sony has of course already begun celebrating the anniversary with things like limited edition consoles, but it stands to reason that they’d have something planned for the actual day, and fans took this small clip from a trailer yesterday as hope that not only is there something planned, it’ll be a brand new big showcase event.
Posting on Twitter earlier today, Grubb said “I haven’t heard about any PlayStation Showcase or State of Play in December,” which he then followed up on during his Game Mess Mornings show.
Grubb says on the show that his sources were “close to ‘sure;” that there wasn’t any kind of showcase coming on December 3rd, which is chiefly why he believes whatever happens on December 3rd, it’ll be something else.
To be clear, Grubb isn’t really killing any hopes and dreams – the leap from yesterday’s supposed trailer tease to a full-blown showcase event is a big one.
Players should also remember that just because some dates feel like ‘the perfect time’ to make big announcements, that doesn’t mean PlayStation’s decision makers agree.
As always, it’s best to keep expectations low so you’re not constantly disappointed.
