Square Enix CEO Confirms The Studio Is Still Working On Indie, Small-Scale Projects
Takashi Kiryu, CEO of Square Enix, has revealed during a recent shareholders meeting that the Japanese publisher is still invested in making small-scale and indie titles, despite having a large focus on major IPs as of late such as Final Fantasy.
As reported by independent journalist michsuzuki, Kiryu-san was asked if the “quality over quantity” approach to Square Enix’s new business plan would come at a cost to indie projects, the executive replied, “if we define ‘indie games’ as casual, small-to-medium-scale games — we are working hard on those too. I can’t name specific titles at the moment, but our development pipeline does not only include major tiles. Indie game development should not be ruled out.”
