Digital Foundry Provides Deeper Look At FSR 3 Performance Gains On Xbox

As a follow-up to an early look at FSR 3 frame generation technology on Xbox, the tech wizards over at Digital Foundry have now provided us with a deeper look at how much performance can be gained using the technique – along with more of an explainer on how it actually works.

Again, just like DF’s sneak peek video clip earlier this week, the focus of this FSR 3 test is EA’s magic-based FPS Immortals of Aveum – it’s the first console game to actually make use of the feature. This time around, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PS5 are all put through their paces, comparing results with and without FSR 3 applied.

“Frame generation has proven to be a genuinely useful technology for PC users – and AMD’s FSR3 is now mature enough to be deployed on the current generation consoles.

Immortals of Aveum is the first game to feature it and Rich has gone in depth on this one: image quality tests, frame-rate analysis, latency measurements and much, much more.”

Anyway, the full video up above is well worth checking out if you’d like to learn a bit more about the tech while taking a closer look at broader console comparisons – including how FSR 3 holds up on PlayStation as well as Xbox. It’ll certainly be interesting to see where frame generation goes when more and more console games make use of it in future!
