Firewall Ultra Developer First Contact Entertainment Is Shutting Down
UPDATE: First Contact Entertainment has published a statement to its official Facebook page, addressing the shutdown.
“After almost 8 years of working with the most amazing team I’ve ever have the pleasure of being part of, I’m sad to announce that we will be closing our company First Contact Entertainment by the end of the year.
The lack of support for VR within the industry has eventually taken its toll. As a AAA VR game developer, we are just not able to justify the expense needed gouging forward.
We are a team of fearless innovators willing to push new technologies to its limits. I am extremely proud of the team and grateful to our investors, our partners and of course our community of dedicated and passionate players. It’s been a wild ride, Thank you!”
Original Story:
Firewall Ultra, Firewall Zero Hour and Solaris Offworld Combat developer First Contact Entertainment will be shutting down, according to the company’s strategic communications lead Frank Marmolino.
Marmolino shared the news on his personal Twitter account, where he writes “After nearly 6 years with the amazing folks at First Contact Entertainment, the company will be shutting down.”
As Marmolino points out, it’s sad news, almost as if 2023 is trying to get its final licks in just before the buzzer, with only 10 days left in the year at time of writing.
It’s also a specific shot towards VR players, as First Contact Entertainment was one of the better studios making great games for PSVR and PS VR2, even if Firewall Ultra didn’t land the same way Zero Hour did.
2023 has been a year marred by layoffs and studio closures, with First Contact Entertainment now another name to add to the list.
It’s unclear what will happen with Firewall Ultra, or First Contact Entertainment’s other titles, as the studio has yet to make its own public announcement.
