Poll: Starfield Explorers, What Do You Think Of Fast Travel So Far?

Poll: What Do You Think Of Fast Travel In Starfield So Far?

One major talking point that’s come up since the early access launch of Starfield is about the game’s fast travel system. Basically, if you have played it – space jumping makes it easier for players to zip around the galaxy and get where they need to be…fast.

Anyway, it’s raised some discussion online, with some explorers saying it’s a tad excessive mixed in with all the menus and loading screens and takes away from the sense of freedom. Other players though are more than happy they don’t have to travel lengthy distances like in some of Bethesda’s other games.

Here’s just a small sample of these comments, from across subreddits like the Starfield one and social media:

@nosleep1138 “I really like how much of an emphasis there is on fast travel in Starfield. With there being so much to do and so many places to go it just makes sense to cut the time down as much as possible. I really like the way it’s been implemented here.”

@Josh2747919 “Excessive fast travel being a criticism of Starfield doesn’t really make sense to me, I don’t think you can really have a space RPG that’s as open as Bethesda’s usually are without a lot of fast travelling between planets but idk.”

@Xepla “Starfield, it does feel like a fast travel simulator, and not very open world in that classic Bethesda way. its a lot of loading screens and menu’s to teleport around, rather than the romance & wanderlust of free space cowboyin’ like i expected. def feels boxed in and not a space sim but an rpg that is in space.”

FrankWhiteKingofNY3 via Reddit: “Surprised by the amount of fast travelling! “About 4-5 hours into the game so I don’t have any opinion to offer about the game yet…only I’m surprised by the amount of fast travelling this game gets me doing, I mean I’m fast travelling every 2-3 minutes! It’s like I’m just teleporting around from place to place it’s a strange feeling! Didn’t expect it!”

akaPledger via Reddit “I didn’t even think about how often there were loading screens/fast travel – Played about 7 hours last night and woke up to check the sub, and I was really surprised to see all the posts complaining about how often you are in a loading screen or had to fast travel. In literally every other Bethesda game fast travel/loading screens have been a huge part of the game and how they operate. Did you guys even check who was developing this game?”

One other post on the Starfield subreddit notes how fast travel is a lot quicker if players make proper use of the tools at their disposal, with another user mentioning how it’s even faster to move about if you enter “missions” and teleport straight to the objective or landmark.

Mr_Abs752 via Reddit: “I saw a post complaining about 6 or 7 loading screens to go from one place to another. This would be true if you decide to sit in your cockpit and manually fly. However if you use the starmap on the navigation console you can go from being on a random planet to on foot outside of a city in one loading screen.”

As fast travel has quickly become such a big talking point during the game’s early access launch, it’s got us wondering how Starfield players here on Pure Xbox are finding it. Has travelling across the galaxy been breezy so far, or have you found it to be a bit of a struggle? Vote in our poll and leave your thoughts in the comments.
