CD Projekt RED Could Be Restarting Development On Its Multiplayer Witcher Game, Project Sirius

CD Project RED announced to its investors that an “impairment allowance” had been created for Project Sirius, in relation to the expenses occurred so far in its development.

So far, the value of the expenses for developing Project Sirius totaled 33.4 million PLN in 2022, with another 9.5 million PLN incurred during the first two months of 2023.

In its statement, CD Projekt RED indicates that this decision “is based on results of evaluation of the scope and commercial potential of the original concept of Project Sirius, and ongoing work on formulating a new framework for this project.”

That last part, “a new framework,” seems to be the most telling, as it implies CD Projekt RED is potentially restarting development on Project Sirius, or at the very least re-adjusting the scope of the idea CDPR originally had in some way.

Project Sirius is one of multiple announced yet unrevealed Witcher projects, that were all announced at once, on top of a brand new IP in development, and a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel project codenamed Orion.

That CD Projekt RED will be able to successfully execute and launch all these projects in its proposed timeline, when it is still coming off a stunning failure to properly launch one major title that it worked on for more than a decade, feels questionable at the very least.

Already re-adjusting the scope of one of its projects less than six months after it boldly claimed a timeline involving five total projects across the coming decade isn’t exactly surprising, with the debacle that was Cyberpunk 2077 in mind.
