Legacy of the Dark Knight – Batcave revealed – PlayStation.Blog

The Batcave has been presented in various shapes and sizes over the past 85 years of Batman history, so when it came to creating our unique version in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, we knew how important it was. Not only did we want to pay homage to the different iterations that came before us, but we also wanted to give players a whole new experience, one that makes the most of the creative power of LEGO bricks.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight – Batcave revealed

Throughout the course of the game, the Batcave evolves, just like Bruce Wayne does, from humble beginnings to a high-tech base of operations. What begins as Alfred’s old storage unit is transformed by technological breakthroughs courtesy of Lucius Fox at Wayne Industries. Players can use studs collected throughout the game to get items and props to furnish and build out new areas of the environment, bringing opportunities for fun and customization.

Your Batcave, your way

No Batcave is complete without a science lab, training center, and garage, but why stop there? Players can personalize and customize the Batcave to make it their own. Want an American diner in your cellar? Order’s up, Batman. Seeking a quiet life in a cozy library? Pull up a seat. Need a space-age command center? Houston, we’re ready for takeoff.

As Batman moves through the eras, your collection of digital screens grows, displaying art found around Gotham City throughout the course of the story. Like some awesome Black Canary Tour posters from inside the Iceberg Lounge. One of the most memorable aspects of the Batcave over the years has been Batman’s numerous trophies, and all the classics are present here in LEGO brick form – including the mechanical T-Rex, a giant playing card of The Joker, the famous giant U.S. penny, and a few surprise callbacks to our earlier video games.

A new personal favorite of mine is the absurdly named Polka-Dot Man’s polka dot ball pit, because sometimes you just want to dive headfirst into a ball pit. Trophies come in various forms, and as the World’s Greatest Detective, players will need to scour the open-world Gotham City to find them all.

Collect the Legacy

As LEGO collectors and Batman fans, we’re passionate about displaying as much of Batman’s equipment as possible in the Batcave. The only real option in our minds was to go big and showcase everything in the grandest way possible. The suit vault has wall-to-wall suits, allowing players to browse a range of playable outfits before equipping them.

No Batcave would be complete without a place to store the iconic Batmobiles. In the garage, players will house numerous vehicles that, when displayed all together, look very impressive. It’s a great way to celebrate the multitude of Batmobiles and Batcycles from across the Dark Knight’s history of high-speed chases.

Gadgets and training

What is Batman without his gadgets? In LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, players can upgrade gadgets to improve their crime-fighting capabilities, enhancing various aspects of stealth, combat, and puzzle solving. Gadget upgrades are available for every playable character, providing ways to level up Batman or his crime-fighting allies.

Using the furnishing customizer, players can combine a selection of training equipment and a traversal apparatus, allowing them to test their upgrades before heading into the crime-riddled alleys of Gotham City. Grapple posts, balance beams, practice dummies, wall climbs, and many more are at the player’s disposal. What better way to test abilities than an overelaborate training course.

Gameplay challenges

Alongside the new difficulty settings, we also have an accompanying ‘challenge terminal’ which rewards players with studs to purchase new outfits, collectible Red Bricks to unlock additional options, and more. Challenges include defeating 10 enemies with only a single heart, smashing 60 objects within a minute, or using Jim Gordon’s foam sprayer to turn an enemy into a ball and using them to attack other enemies.

We’re excited for players to dive into the Batcave we’ve created, and hope players get as much fun out of it as we put into it. And please show us what your custom Batcave looks like!

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be available on May 22 for PlayStation 5 and is available for pre-order now. Players who pre-order the Deluxe Edition will receive 72-hour early access to the game beginning May 19, and all pre-orders will receive The Dark Knight Returns Batsuit, inspired by the legendary DC comic book series.
