Rumour – MindsEye Dev Build A Rocket Boy Is Looking To Part Ways With Its Publishing Partner IO Interactive

Build A Rocket Boy, the developer behind last year’s critically-mauled MindsEye, is planning to separate from its publisher IO Interactive.
That’s according to a report on Insider Gaming, which claims that the decision is based on Build A Rocket Boy wanting to publish its efforts in-house in order to gain more control. This will incude faster decision-making, easier communication, and better control over player experience.
As a result of the decision, the MindsEye and Hitman crossover, which was revealed during Summer Game Fest, is no longer going ahead. The studio is instead going to focus its efforts on updating MindsEye with new content and bug fixes. According to sources at Insider Gaming, the decision to part with IO Interactive was down to Build A Rocket Boy, not the Hitman developer itself.
MindsEye launched on June 10 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, but was plagued with various technical issues and subsequently received poor reviews. Build A Rocket Boy was quick to respond to the issues, saying it was ‘working around the clock‘ to improve the game’s performance, and later said it was ‘heartbroken‘ to see so many players experience the issues.
Back in July 2025, Build A Rocket Boy CEO Leslie Benzies reportedly indicated that MindsEye will be relaunched at some point down the line, with IGN stating that staff were informed by Benzies that “BARB would bounce back and relaunch MindsEye,” although that has yet to happen.
