IO Interactive CEO Says ‘Of Course There Will Be More Hitman’ As Series Marks 25th Anniversary

Speaking during an interview with Variety, Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, has said that there will “of course” be more Hitman games beyond the current Hitman World of Assassination, having recently celebrated 25 years of the stealth-based series starring Agent 47.
IO Interactive is still keeping Hitman World of Assassination players entertained with new content, and recently announced yet another Elusive Target in the form of Slim Shady, the alter-ego of rapper Eminem, which launches today. Beyond that, it’s got 007 First Light in the pipeline for a March 2026 release, but Abrak makes it clear that Hitman isn’t going anywhere.
So of course there will be more ‘Hitman.’ But right now, I think we need to get to the other side of this year and next year you’ll get more news about ‘Hitman’ co-op, because I think co-op is a really, really good extension to the universe, and will introduce very interesting mechanics and combinations in ‘World of Assassination.’ But we will, after that, be talking about the next ‘Hitman’ — because, of course, there’s going to be a next ‘Hitman.’

Hitman: World of Assassination encompasses all the content from the rebooted Hitman trilogy, which began in 2016 as an episodic title with new content rolling out on a regular basis. Originally, IO had partnered with Square Enix for Hitman before moving briefly to Warner Bros. and eventually sent on to self-publish the series. Back in January, IO Interactive confirmed that Hitman: World of Assassination had attracted 75 million players worldwide.
IO Interactive’s next major release will be 007 First Light on March 26, 2026 for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
